Phoenix 2.09.2011

Christine and I decided to escape the winter weather in Raleigh and decided to go visit Phoenix and Grand Canyon. What a trip! Cacti everywhere, red rock and desert dust ... Incredible! Oh, and a temperature of 70 - 78 in Phoenix.

The first day we left Raleigh, got to Phoenix, checked in the hotel, went to check out a nursery and then we climbed on the Camelback mountain to see the sunset. The second day we went to the Bisphere2 and Saguaro national park and in route we exchange our small cheap rental car with a nice convertible (we had problems with the first car). The third day we drove toward Grand Canyon and stopped in Sedona to see the Red Rock and Oak Canyon and then went to see the sunset on the Grand Canyon. The forth day we woke up and went to see the sunrise on the Grand Canyon (incredible, even if it is crazy cold and dark at the beginning, it is worth it!) and then ventured down inside the Canyon on the Kaibab trail down to Skeleton Point. It was a fantastic experience to go down in the Canyon. Definitely we will have to go all the way to the bottom when we return. The fifth and last day we drove back from the Grand Canyon to Phoenix and went to see the Desert Botanical Garden that hosts only desert plants and of course mainly cacti. The next day we woke up, had a good breakfast and came back home to Raleigh.
